Hey there!
Welcome to the first edition of my newsletter.
Featured Video
This video is special to me, because it’s about revisiting a small town I never thought much of. It’s the second of my travel documentaries I’ve made since deciding to go all in on YouTube. Big learning experience with this one.
Hutchinson, KS is a small town hiding two world-class museums.
This week’s insight
I’ve had three great conversations this week all about authenticity and connection.
Connection is such an important piece of video creation. I’d argue it’s the entire reason for uploading videos to the internet in 2026. Think about this:
Every tutorial has already been made. There’s an informative video essay for every subject matter. Pretty much every location in the world has multiple videos covering it already.
So why do people keep watching new videos?
I think it’s because we like to share experiences with others. When I watch a tutorial, I might watch an older tried and true video. But I’ll also watch a brand new one. Because I want to see how people do the thing now.
A video that is 3 months old is much more likely to reflect my experience now than a video from 15 years ago. And I want to feel like the video’s presenter understands me.
I want to feel connection. And I think most people want that too.
Quote I’m pondering
“Luck is not something we get. Luck is something we create for other people.”
